Incorporating the EU 5th Framework

:: Welcome

What could be the missing link between smart or 'active' materials and the increasingly fashionable world of nanotechnologies, is one of the most exciting projects launched in 2002.

Let loose under the modest acronym of MechMol (MECHanized MOLecules), the EU 5th Framework Programme project started in July 2002. It has 36 months to run, and obtained funding of €1.60m against expected costs of €1.93m.

Participants are a roll call of universities - Edinburgh, Amsterdam, Bologna and Groningen - together with France's, Commissariat à l'Énergie Atomique (CEA), spanning 3 major disciplines (chemistry, physics and engineering).
